WHERE DID WE START?

It has been a long running issue with the stock Toyota 12224-60060 INSULATOR, CARBURETOR HEAT as they are prone to air leaks due to heat, age, bouncing around on dirt roads and/or us fiddling around with rebuilding the factory Toyota carburetors, cracking the tube while removing the hose.

You’ve either seen or dealt with the issue if you’ve been working much on an 48+ year old FJ40 Land Cruiser, equipped with the 1F engine.

We have fixed a many of factory Toyota Carb Insulators over the years here at Red Line Land Cruisers.

The factory insulating spacer is rather fragile as it is comprised of a metal tube bonded to a composite material. This material has many desirable performance qualities, including high temperature resistance, excellent thermal insulation, corrosion resistance, and excellent chemical resistance properties. But we finally decided we needed a better fix! And we wanted to make it BETTER than “just a fix!”

Red Line Land Cruisers, in partnership with Crazy Steel Customs (both of Colorado Springs), worked on a solution to the “forever out of stock” Toyota part by using the next level of medical-grade phenolic composite material that protects against heat soak by reducing heat transfer.

The factory Toyota gasket used a pressed and bonded inlet tube. We used a higher-grade material, which allows tight machine tolerance, allowing for the addition of a threaded fitting.

WARNING!!! WARNING!!! WARNING!!!
DO NOT OVERTIGHTEN!
Both the Toyota Insulator and our Insulator are made of a fibrous material. The brass fitting is a threaded “wedge fit” type, and if over-tightened, it will crack the Insulator.

Also, we didn’t just hit the go button; we tested too! Here we are showing temps between the heat plate and temp gun vs heat plate with the 1F FENOM Spacer and temp gun. And the test could have been a little better by having a solid piece of material to temp as the spacer has two large holes in it that could allow metered heat, but you get the idea. We were too excited about this next test!

The RL1057 1F FENOM CARBURETOR INSULATION SPACER has to pass the BURN TEST!

With the use of the Red Line 1F FENOM Spacer, separation of an heat soaked intake manifold from the carburetor aids in the delivery of cooler air for better combustion. We are not claiming any horsepower gains, but there is a reason every race team (and Toyota) is using this type of manifold spacer material. Minimizing heat soak of the air intake temperature prior to combustion is a critical chase!

Red Line Land Cruisers RL1057 1F FENOM CARBURETOR INSULATION SPACER is a “better than new” solution for replacing the discontinued Toyota 12224-60060 Insulator, Carburetor Heat spacer.

When installing the FENOM Spacer please utilize both the CARB60010 & CARB60011 gaskets for a tight air seal.
Hopefully you’ve read our “Manifold Prep for Carb or Sniper” and did the prep to your own manifold.
Now you are ready to install your carburetor!

This is the CARB60011 gasket and will go on first.
No.2 Gasket Sealant is optional between the gasket and manifold depending on how well your “Check & Deck” of the manifold went.
No gasket sealant should be used on the top of the gasket.

Install the RL1057 FENOM Spacer and add the CARB60010 2-Hole Gasket on top.
Do not add No.2 Gasket Sealer as you will be matting the two perfectly flat surfaces of the FENOM Spacer and carburetor.
