RL1229 Boot, Lower, 4-Speed Transmission FJ40 (1973 – 1987) Toyota Land Cruiser (BO2-2)

This smaller shift boot sits beneath the larger accordion-style shift boot on the 4-speed FJ40 transmission. It mounts directly to the transmission cover plate (Retainer Sub-Assy, Control Shift Lever—For Floor Shift) and forms the primary seal around the shift lever opening. Its purpose is to prevent dust, dirt, water, and other contaminants from entering the transmission tunnel and reaching the top of the transmission, while also helping to reduce noise, heat, and fumes from entering the passenger compartment. Made from flexible rubber, the boot allows full shift lever movement while maintaining a protective seal. Over time, exposure to heat, age, and use can cause the boot to crack, harden, or tear, making replacement important for preserving the integrity of the transmission tunnel seal and maintaining cabin comfort.
