At Red Line Land Cruisers in Colorado Springs, CO., we continually push forward on the Holley EFI “Sniperization” of F & 2F Toyota engine development!

We’ve discovered that some of you are crossing your fingers and “cross-threading” the Sniper Coolant Sensor NTP threads into the Toyota 2F Coolant Drain, which is technically a BSPT threaded port (British Standard Pipe Taper). Maybe you are sealing it with some super-sealant or “gorilla-torquing” it to “permanently sealed” status. While the “cross-threaded way” may be a “fix-it-and-forget-it” backyard solution, we built a serviceable solution system.

Toyota Land Cruiser cylinder heads come in “two flavors!”

Toyota Land Cruiser cylinder heads come in “two flavors!” Why does this matter? Toyota Land Cruiser cylinder heads come equipped as either 2-Port or 3-Port (coolant ports) across the range of 40/60-Series Land Cruisers.

When adding the Holley Sniper System to your 40/60-Series Land Cruiser, the head unit is equipped with an electronic water temperature sensor. If the cylinder head is the 3-Port design, use our 2F/F Reducing Bushing (included in the pull-down option) for the Holley Sniper Coolant Temperature Sensor and disregard this Thermostat Housing Modification.

But, if your 2F Cylinder Head is a 2-Port design, you can use our RL1076 2F Modified Thermostat Housing Kit to have a location suitable for the Holley Sniper Coolant Temp Sensor.

IDENTIFY: WHAT CYLINDER HEAD DO YOU HAVE

If your Toyota 2F FJ60 Cylinder Head is a 2-Port design, we’ve modified the lower thermostat housing so you can install the Holley Sniper Coolant Temperature Sensor. If you have a 1F 2-Port design head (11101-60031 castings or earlier), then see our 60031 Sniper Thermo Housing Mod Kit.

A better way for the Holley Sniper Coolant Sensor to take water temperature readings

The Toyota 2F engine thermostat is located within the thermo-housing and is positioned up at the front of the engine between the block and cylinder head.  Water flowing through this area changes much quicker than within the block itself. This is where Toyota set up the water temperature monitoring via the Thermostatic Vacuum Switching Valve (TVSV) for the carburetor to adjust for cold start parameters and normal running conditions. As electronic fuel injection is even more critical for monitoring temperatures, it is crucial to monitor coolant conditions as best possible; thus, why not do it where Toyota deemed it essential?

Red Line Land Cruisers provides the easiest bolt-on solution with a Thermostat Housing modified for the SNIPER Temp Sensor for the EFI conversion of your 2F engine in your FJ40/60 Land Cruiser.

Hardware Included as your factory bolts will be too long and bottom out when using the RL1076 housing. 

Since you will be removing the Upper and Lower Radiator Water Housings, you may change your thermostat and gaskets! Again, you want to give your Toyota 2F engine the very best chance of being as solid and reliable as possible when doing the 2F Holley Sniper EFI Conversion!
