We have a saying around the shop, “If the rig has lipstick, check the dipstick!” Because so many of these rigs get “restored” first, aka “the lipstick,” rather than working on the mechanical restoration aspect first! But there is nothing worse than a pretty Land Cruiser broken down on the side of the road! Oil is life for these old vintage 4X4s, so checking the oil is paramount! We build quite a few F/2F engines, and sometimes the engine needs a fresh, new, straight oil dipstick, AKA Gauge Sub-Assy, Oil Level, as Toyota’s nomenclature calls it! Since you are dressing out your engine block, you can also choose the optional Oil Level Guide, which stops the dip stick from going all the way down into the engine.
