HOW TO INSTALL: RL1071 A/B 2F SNIPER FUEL LINES FOR ’75 – ’79 FJ40 w/o Oil Cooler
We are pleased to introduce the “BOLT-ON” version of the Red Line Holley Sniper Fuel Hard Line Kit, but these are specifically for the 1975 – 1979 2F engine without Oil Cooler. These “Sniper-specific” lines, like our others are CNC formed specifically for F/2F perfection, made from “Cupro-Nickel” steel alloy for both factory-fit and safety! Redline Land Cruisers makes it easy for you with these factory-style hard fuel lines when installing the Holley Sniper headunit during your EFI conversion.
This is the 2F Fuel Line Kit, Bolt-On Holley Sniper, 75 – 79 FJ40 w/o Oil Cooler – Red Line Land Cruisers RL1071-A/B shown in its assembled state to help you familiarize yourself with the desired end results as we understand that you may have acquired a project that is disassembled or it has been a while since you last worked on your FJ40 project. If you have a 2F with Factory Toyota Oil Cooler, please see 2F Fuel Line Kit, Bolt-On Holley Sniper, Late ’78+ FJ40 WITH Oil Cooler (COMING SOON).
Notice we have the water housing remove (above photo) as this makes for an easier installation, but be prepared to change gaskets. If you haven’t, this may be a great time to replace the thermostat as well. Did you read our “SNIPER 101 – WHERE TO START?” article? We HIGHLY STRESS already having an engine operating at its upmost potential before you start your Holley Sniper EFI conversion!
Now lets start the process!
Take the two fuel lines and note the orientation of the Supply line and Return Line, with the Supply Line being on top.
• RL1071-A SUPPLY Line – is on top.
• RL1071-B RETURN Line – is on bottom.
Set the fuel lines aside and start with installing the fuel line tabs.
EVERYTHING WILL BE FINGER TIGHTENED THROUGH THE WHOLE PROCESS TO ASSURE PROPER FITMENT PRIOR TO TIGHTENING FUEL COMPONENTS!!! While the fuel lines are made of metal, you do not want to tighten or crimp the fuel lines during the installation process. DO NOT RUSH THE PROCESS!
!!! INSTALL COMPLETELY – CHECK FITMENT – THEN TIGHTEN !!!
Locate the two tabs as these tabs will locate the Fuel Line Separators and hold the fuel lines securely in place as the lines wrap around the engine.
• RL1033 Tab Hanger – Left Bend (1)
• RL1034 Tab Hanger – Right Bend (1)
Note: the “D” bottoms but one bumps outward and the other is bumped inward.
With the water housing (upper portion) removed, we will unbolt the lower left water housing bolt to locate and hold in place the tab connector.
Note the orientation of the tab located on the front of the block. If needed, you can bend the tab for better fitment. At this time you can securely tighten the bolt holding the tab as tightening this bolt with fuel lines separators in place could result in crimp or bent fuel lines.
Moving to the passenger side of the engine, you will remove one of the engine hoist-hook bolts to locate and mount the fuel line tab. At this time you can securely tighten the bolt holding the tab as tightening this bolt with fuel lines separators in place could result in crimp or bent fuel lines.
• The Red Line 2F Sniper Fuel Line kit is supplied with (3) Billet Fuel Line Separators.
NOTE: (2) are supplied with longer through-bolts and (1) has the shorter thru-bolt.
Two of the Fuel Line Separators with the longer through-bolts will mount directly onto the Fuel Line Tabs and one with the shorter through-bolt will capture the fuel lines at the lower portion of the fuel lines.
Tools Needed:
3/32 Allen Wrench
1/4 Wrench
Place your fuel lines gently around the engine in their proper orientation as you will begin the placement of the fuel line separators.
Return line will be on the bottom and Feed line will be on top.
With fuel lines roughly in place, the front tab mounted onto the front of the block via the lower water housing bolt, take one of the Fuel Line Separators (Long Bolt) and place the back-half of the separator between the fuel lines and the tab.
Note the Fuel Line Separator located between the fuel lines and Fuel Line Tab.
With one of the two “long through bolts” from the Fuel Line Separators, get it pulled all the way through the tab as you will take the supplied nyloc nut and loosely secure to the through-bolt.
Loosely secure the nyloc nut onto the through-bolt of the Fuel Line Separator.
Now you can repeat the process on the passenger side Fuel Line Separator to the Fuel Line Tab.
For the third supplied Fuel Line Separator (short bolt) is bolted to the lower portion of the fuel lines, approximately 2″ before the bottom bend.
Loose Fitment time!
With the Fuel Line Separators loosely fitted, now you can mock-in your fitment of the fuel lines with the intention to clamp the lines securely without bending or stressing the fuel lines. You want to achieve the most “relaxed” fitment of the fuel lines.
At this point you can test-fit the placement of the fuel lines in relation to the Holley EFI Headunit. But don’t “dry-thread” the AN fittings together.
We reccomend using oil at the Fuel Line A/N fittings to the A/N fittings of the Holley Headunit. Light tool oil or regular 10/30 motor oil can be used to prevent galling of the aluminum AN fittings.
Again, this first round of mounting the fuel lines is just a “test-fit” to make sure you do not have any issues such as binding or possible crimping that will degradate your fuel delivery system. Loose-fit and hand-tighten everything first!
Once you have the fuels lines in place, you are ready to finalize the process.
Now you can slowly work your way back through the process and tighten down the Line Separators to the tabs with your 1/4 wrench and 3/32 Allen wrench.
Now you are ready to proceed with the completion of your Toyota 2F EFI conversion.
