1994 lt1 Corvette engine runs great until water temps hit 200 degrees. “Opti Spark” engine has been known to have issues. There are aftermarket coil pack and ecu conversions in the aftermarket.
It does run and drive great until it warms up to 200 degrees. This cruiser is a great platform to swap to a 5.3 or 6.0L GM gen 4 engine.
As is: $6,000 Or have Red Line get this FJ up and running by installing a used 6.0 LS based engine swap (engine will be a 100,00 mile or less engine, tuned with new exhaust system) for $17,000 For more information, please fill out the form below or contact Justin at Red Line Land Cruisers at (719) 210-0101

SUPER CLEAN 1977 FJ-40 Land Cruiser. This is a California Smog Legal V-8 conversion that recently passed Smog. This was initially sold in 1977 in Colorado (I have the Original sticker price + Original Owner’s Manual + Original Service Manual + Original green canvas tool kit bag). My Dad purchased the vehicle in 1978 and I purchased it from him in 1992. This FJ-40 has not been restored. However, it has been kept in a garage and is SUPER CLEAN. Every time you drive somewhere you will receive compliments on it.
It has a 5.7L TBI V-8 engine donated from a 1/2 ton 1994 Chevy pick-up. The total mileage on the FJ-40 itself is approximately 55k miles. The total mileage on the 5.7L V-8 is approximately 73k miles. I would’ve loved to have kept the stock 6-cylinder, however, California Smog regulations prevented me from doing so.
You can literally drive this vehicle at 70-75 mph comfortably on the freeway to the trailhead. You can get out of the cab, lock in the hubs, engage the Orion transfer case (4:1) and go wheelin’. Why tow your rig to the trailhead when you can simply drive there? You can also haul the family around in comfort.

This Land Cruiser has spent most of it’s life in the dry climate of Colorado
Thule cross bars (no key for it though, sorry. You can order one online though for around $10).
The previous owner tried to fix the windshield wiper motor and ended up buggering up a delicate clip where the motor mounts to the window wiper crank arm. I have the part, just haven’t had the time to fix it. If you take care of it, I’ll take $250 off the price of the FJ.
Needs a carb rebuild and the timing could benefit from an adjustment. Estimated around $200-300.
Front axle leaks a smidge (typical issue). I usually rebuild the front axle and thus fix this issue when it’s time to do the brakes up front.
Rear main seal leaks a smidge (typical issue). I usually replace these only when the clutch needs to be done (It’s a $25 part, but almost a full day’s work to replace).
Paint is fading a bit and there are a few scratches here and there
Headliner torn in the back right corner. Might be able to be stitched?
Choke cable needs to be hooked back up (whoever rebuilds the carb can do this easily)
This is not an issue, but it’s worth pointing out…there is no A/C on this FJ60. It wasn’t removed…it was just never installed. It was an option in 1983, and was not ordered on this FJ.
Front windshield cracked. Around $150 to replace from any local windshield shop.
Windshield reservoir squirter motor not working (unsure of the issue).
I rebuilt this FJ for my son to drive so I spared no expense in going thru the complete drive train were all pulled and taken apart and went thru. Every worn part was replaced and a complete gasket set for every part was installed. Everything was steam cleaned and repainted. Every hose and belt was also replaced. The radiator was professionally steamed and checked as well. it fires up after sitting for a month and runs great. It has a very few spots of rust starting to develop on front fender but its minor. Over $3,000 in just parts were spent in getting this Fj in top shape. it comes with bikini top and a hard top with ambulance doors . The only thing this cruiser needs is a new stabilizer shock and that’s it.
