Axle Diff Pugs Spotters Guide, Toyota Land Cruiser, Red Line Land Cruisers
We are showing you three axle plugs and one transmission plug. Why? We will get to that in just a moment. Let’s first establish what is shown here from “left to right: 1, 2, 3, 4.”
1] The original Toyota 24mm Diff Plug for 1969 – 1997 Toyota Land Cruisers
2] The magnetized version Toyota Diff Plug for 1969 – 2025 Toyota Land Cruisers
3] This is the 17mm Transfer Case Plug for 1969 – 2004 Toyota Land Cruisers
4] This is Toyota’s magnetized flush-mount 10mm Hex Socket Head Plug
We are increasingly using these factory Toyota “flush-mount” type Magnetized 10mm Hex Socket Head Diff Plugs across the Land Cruiser board, as the old “hex bolt-style” plugs are typically beaten up from the rocks and/or “hammered” by guys who do not own or care to use metric tools (24mm) when attempting to work on Toyota Land Cruisers!
But why are we showing you the [3] Transfer (t-case) Case Plug?

As you can see in the above listing, all these plugs started in 1969 and went up to various years, depending on when Toyota released the plug. But in the photo above, you can see they all share the 18.50 thread pitch. Thus, the diff plug and t-case plug are interchangeable. Also, FJ40 manual transmissions use the same 18.50 thread pitch and are interchangeable, meaning you can use all magnetized flush-mount 10mm Hex Socket Head Plugs.
