Three of us here at Red Line Land Cruisers drive 80-Series Land Cruisers, all are over the 200,000-mile mark; thus, keeping them alive and reliable is always on our minds! Justin, owner of Red Line Land Cruisers, has been an 80-Series owner since 2017. Since 2007, he has been servicing and rebuilding 40-Series Land Cruisers – that’s 17+ years now! These 40-Series Land Cruisers, equipped with the 1F/2F engines, are his passion, as he also owns a 1970 and 1984 40-Series powered by a carbureted 1F and 2F engines, respectively. Those engines are what led Toyota into the 3FE-powered FJ80 (1991 – 1992) and then the 1FZ-FE engine for the FZJ80 (1993 – 1997), year model Toyota Land Cruisers. The last of the great Land Cruisers!

Like we said in the title of this article, “15W-40,” yes, this is the thick stuff! And the Rotella T4 is technically a diesel product due to its additive package. We primarily use it for its Zinc / ZDDP additive and its shear strength.

Just to clear the air first… Can we even use diesel oil in our gasoline engines?
If the diesel oil meets the appropriate specifications and viscosity requirements of your engine, you can use diesel oil in a gas engine. Diesel oils tend to have very strong additive packages, which, at least in theory, could poison catalytic converters.
